YINGCAI Self-Cleaning Nano Coating Helps a 20MW Distributed PV Station in Hunan Improve Annual Power Generation by Over 22%
A 20MW distributed photovoltaic power station in an industrial park in Hunan recently adopted YINGCAI photovoltaic self-cleaning nano coating to solve long-term dust accumulation and high maintenance cost challenges. After application, the project achieved significant improvements in module cleanliness, power generation efficiency, cleaning frequency, and overall operation value.
The power station is located in an industrial area with dense factory operations, high dust levels, oil mist, and airborne industrial particles. These pollutants easily accumulated on the surface of PV modules, reducing light transmission and weakening power output. Before coating application, long-term surface contamination caused power generation efficiency losses of more than 20%, with annual power generation losses exceeding 3.6 million kWh and direct economic losses of more than RMB 1.8 million.
Traditional manual cleaning also created several problems. The cleaning cycle of the station could take up to 7 days, high-altitude work involved safety risks, and repeated washing could increase the risk of surface damage to PV modules.

Technical Highlights
To address these challenges, YINGCAI developed a customized photovoltaic self-cleaning nano coating solution for this distributed PV project.
The coating forms a transparent protective layer on the surface of solar module glass. With excellent hydrophobic, anti-fouling, and anti-dust properties, it helps reduce the adhesion of dust, oil stains, industrial particles, and other pollutants. Under natural rainfall, contaminants can be washed away more easily, helping the module surface remain cleaner for a longer period.
The coating also supports light transmission and long-term outdoor protection. With high light transmittance under tested conditions, it helps maintain sunlight absorption while resisting UV aging, wind, rain, dust, and complex industrial pollution.
In terms of construction, the coating can be applied efficiently with professional spraying equipment. For this 20MW distributed PV power station, the coating work was completed within 3 days, reducing construction impact on normal power station operation.
Application Value
After using YINGCAI photovoltaic self-cleaning nano coating, the Hunan distributed PV power station achieved clear performance and economic benefits.
Annual power generation increased by over 22%, with additional annual electricity output exceeding 4 million kWh and additional revenue of more than RMB 2 million. The module surface remained cleaner for longer periods, and the power station achieved more stable generation performance.
In operation and maintenance, manual cleaning frequency was reduced from 12 times per year to 2 times per year, helping reduce annual O&M costs by more than RMB 800,000. At the same time, the coating helped reduce surface damage caused by repeated manual cleaning, lowering module replacement pressure and supporting longer service life.
